comment Flush processes consume too much of CPU
@RomanNewaza this will only drop caches that are not locked or dirty. flush typically doesn't do anything with non-dirty caches, so I doubt it'd make a difference (and this will severely hurt performance on a server until the caches re-warm)

comment Flush processes consume too much of CPU
Dirty pages are portions of files that are cached in memory, have been modified in memory by some process, but have not yet been written back to disk. Normally this write happens in the background, unless the amount of dirty pages is too high, free memory too low, or the program explicitly asks - when the write happens in the background, it's flush's job to actually trigger this write.

I'll give it a shot next time it happens; the intermittent nature of the issue makes debugging quite difficult :/

comment Unable to receive UDP packets from a link-local address
Per RFC3927 3.3, link local addresses should be contactable from non-link-local addresses. Moreover, I'm having problems on receive, the peer's packets are definitely reaching the linux host, and all sends bypass routing tables...

comment Unable to receive UDP packets from a link-local address
The network in question is a test network; the DHCP server is from windows XP's internet connection sharing (the real internet connection is on another port). No idea why XP chooses that renewal interval...

I'll see if I can get a dump the next time it happens.

comment Removing a module currently in use
In general, you can't force a module to unload; doing so would leave all kinds of stray pointers into it after it's unloaded, leading to almost-certain crashes :)
