The above statement is untrue. All an allocation_rule of $pe_slots does is force all requested slots to be allocated on a single host. I have a lot of jobs running on the cluster I admin that demonstrate this.

Are you trying to move everything that is on the disks to the SSD or just a few filesystems? Do you have LVM on top of the RAID (makes life lots simpler). Are the SATA bays hotpluggable? Which of the various things called RAID10 are you using now? Which filesystems are you using? Is the RAID partitioned or do you have multiple independent RAID devices?
