comment ubuntu cluster - so close but so far
Patrick: Everything can be gained. You may be looking for a different solution, but that doesn't tell us why you don't want to use it, so we can't offer sane alternatives. "slowness" isn't an acceptable answer in my book - properly configured, an NFS server will easily go faster than almost all other solutions. Nevertheless, while to my eyes NFS suits this job perfectly, GlusterFS seems a handy alternative - albeit with significant speed and usability drawbacks in this use case.

You say "not NFS" but don't really give a valid reason why you wouldn't use it. Is it purely because the MD3000i is just giving out iscsi?

comment Is a ext3 Linux filesystem byte order independent
It appears not to be present on my Ubuntu install, but the option does appear in the manpage on die.net: linux.die.net/man/8/e2fsck

comment Redirect XMPP with DNS
You could always move your DNS elsewhere, such as dns.he.net or everydns.net - that would work.

Absolutely - it's nice to have a screen session open, split into two windows, with both USB-Serial dongles visible.

comment Versioned storage for large files (PSDs, FLVs etc)
Git is not suitable. I tried committing a 1.5GB SQL file to it, then updating it. I had data loss.
