I'm a C# and .NET Software Developer.

  • I love working with C#, ASP.NET, and MVC. I like playing with XNA (now MonoGame)
  • I enjoy working on cars, playing with legos, watching tv shows, and going to the movies
  • I'm a bit of a DIYer at my house, despite my DIY profile

I work during the day as a professional software developer. I moonlight as an independent game developer.

comment Link Aggregation between DELL PC2724 and Cisco Catalyst 3750
That maybe my problem... I know the Cisco supports LACP, but as far as I can tell, the DELL switch does not support anything other than "LAG" which I understand to be an encompasing term for link aggregation, not a specific type. I'm still hunting down new firmware to see if it provides more options for what type of LAG to form. Should I be using 802.11Q on the Ciscos though?

comment Is there a way to connect to Terminal Services “More Secure” from non-windows machine?
I'm always looking to expand my skillset, some guidance on getting started is all I'm really looking for, once I know the questions to ask I should be able to figure it out.

That looks good. Any pointers on how to get it up and running? My installation experience is limited to sudo apt-get install ;)

comment Is it possible to migrate my whole ubuntu server from a desktop to Amazon Cloud?
All state that persists after a reboot, is guarenteed to be a file on the file system (save for some strange web service that hosts program settings, but even then, there will be a config file pointing to that uri)

comment How do I limit the number of remote desktop connections per user (Win 2008)
There is a way to specify a limit, its not configurable, its just restrict to single session, as stated by @KJ-SRS.

comment DNS error from a web site hosted in a VM
Ping can tell you if the DNS was looked up correctly, but a firewall can be configured to drop ICMP and allow HTTP for example, so it is not a fully definitive test.

comment what is Remote Desktop Services in Windows Server 2008 R2 all about?
You can but, technically you are not supposed to. If you have two licenses for Word, Visual Studio, Firefox (free, but still) and you have per user server cals then you should be OK. That said, you might as well just do RDSH to avoid any possible trouble down the road.

comment VMRC equivalent for Hyper-V?
You don't need full System Center, just the "VMM" part. It is sold stand-alone, though if you already have System Center, it just adds itself right in.

comment BOVPN on Firebox XTM 21 not connecting to Firebox X 500
Awesome glad to hear it. Typically its the route configuration that gets you, because you need to add them in the Tunnel options, not the standard Network -> Routes.

To confirm, each site has a different subnet? Did you configure the routes on both fireboxes?

comment SVN - Migrate to new server
For future, you should be using svnadmin dump to make backup copies, because it is much easier to restore with svnadmin load -- as mentioned in this answer.

comment How secure are files hosted on IIS Anonymously with Directory Browsing Disabled?
So you're saying that, excluding a new zero-day exploit on IIS, in that setup, my documents are as secure as the file-names are random?

comment How secure are files hosted on IIS Anonymously with Directory Browsing Disabled?
I understand its StO, what I'm curious about is how easily is it circumvented? Is guessing the file names the only option? Are there known exploits to trick IIS into providing a list? If the wall of StO is built, how easy is it for someone smarter than I to simply walk around it?

Just a quick FYI: I've had some issues using the L3 features of the Dell PC 6200 series. They work fine as L2 switches though.

That said, you can get a LOT of throughput on a medium size firewall for a few thousand dollars.

Yes. It does. You need an enterprise grade firewall if you expect to push lots of traffic through.
