comment General question about RAID configurations, specifically nested RAID 50
Could you provide a bit more information on what type of shared array, that isn't a SAN, that would provide acceptable performance for VMs? I realize that the RAID controller is a single point of failure, I'm looking at RAID for performance and data integrity reasons first and foremost.

comment General question about RAID configurations, specifically nested RAID 50
@freiheit Updated question, I'll have one RAID controller (hardware), < 10 drives total, I presume the RAID controller will do the pairty calculations?

comment General question about RAID configurations, specifically nested RAID 50
In my situation it would likely be 2 RAID5s + RAID0. But you are saying that a RAID6 might be similar in performance to a RAID 50; but neither quite as fast as RAID 10?

comment Is RAM-as-a-service standard for dedicated hosting?
More RAM will pull slightly more power, but not $20/month worth.

comment Hosting asp.net application inside PHP app on IIS 7
You mean Virtual Directories under the main PHP "website?" You shouldn't have any issues with this. Simply enable "ASP.NET" from within "Manage Your Server" (Add/Modify Role -> IIS -> ASP.NET [x]).

If you want both redundancy and speed, you want RAID-10.

comment can we install IIS to Windows Mobile 6.1?
Yes; however, if your PDAs have internet access, they could access the same web interface as everyone else.

comment Firewall rule to allow access to windows updates or other resources on a CDN?
Does your firewall support DNS lookups? I.e. can you do unrestricted traffic based on DNS? If so, you can see here for a list of domains from Microsoft -- technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb693717.aspx

comment Whats the best setup for a filemaker server?
The only thing I would add, (and I'd +vote if I had votes left) is that you can install an SSL certificate on the IIS server (assuming windows, you can on OSX too, but I have not done it) and use IWP to expose your data securly. Another option, would be to use ODBC and write your own web interface to the data, but at that point, I'd move away from FileMaker if at all possible :)

comment .NET huge Issues
What windows version? Some versions are baked into the OS, and they need to be enabled/installed/updated through Windows Control Panels.
