comment What is a Pem file and how does it differ from other OpenSSL Generated Key File Formats?
Can't help noticing "Privacy Enhanced Email" would give the acronym "PEE" as opposed to "PEM". The RFCs tend to use the phrase "Privacy Enhanced Mail"

comment nginx to drop duplicate requests
In this case, all requests come from localhost. I only want to block consecutive identical requests.

comment nginx to drop duplicate requests
I had a look at the Perl option (made available --with-http_perl_module), and AFAIK I think I could make it work with that, but Perl would have to act as the proxy, rather than just determine whether nginx should server the request or not, and this is not a route I'm keen to take.

I realise that, but unfortunately I have very limited control over the app. I'm doing this more as a debugging exercise than using it as a longterm solution.

comment MySQL blocking new connections, and mysqladmin flush-hosts
The fault turned out to be hardware failure, but really my question was this: why does MySQL recommend a solution that, by definition, can't work?
