comment win2k8 guest on KVM periodically gets corrupted
@dyasny: no, in fact it hasn't ever been "fixed". But I haven't had a recurrence in quite some time, probably at least 5 months. I don't know what changed (maybe a system update or something).

comment How the heck is http://to./ a valid domain name?
it doesn't seem to have an A record, from my investigations using nslookup

comment Preventing access to files if a user types the full url on the address bar
this is the only reasonably secure approach. To elaborate, you could have a PHP script or something similar that opens the file and writes its content out to the web request, thus never exposing the actual file to the web. The script and/or web server would be responsible for checking the user's credentials.

comment Can I ping 127.0.0.1 if my computer isn't connected to a network?
@AlberT: I'm confused about what you're saying. According to RFC 3330, any address in 127.x.x.x is the loopback interface.

IIRC, on some versions of Windows (I think 95), the loopback interface was only available if you had a NIC (or modem, presumably) installed.

comment The Hidden Risks of Cloud Computing?
Christopher: there has been some talk of enacting laws that would require vital internet services such as google search to meet the same uptime/failover/disaster recovery specifications as the telephone system. So you may get your wish, though not quite as you envision. for the record, I'm against any such laws, even for the telcos.

comment win2k8 guest on KVM periodically gets corrupted
The problem only manifests every few weeks, and only when the VM is restarted, so it will require me running with these non-optimal settings for some time, and even then I can never be certain the problem is gone. Perhaps I'll give that a try when I'm not doing anything performance critical, but I can't try it out right now. Thanks anyways.

you say change C to raw, but C already is raw. Did you mean D? And if so, could you please add why you think that would affect it, since the D drive seems to never have trouble?

since that has Xen in the name, is it xen-only? As I stated in the question, I'm using KVM. What would it do for me?
