See my answer in the thread. If msiexec.exe pops up and then ends rather quickly the Windows Installer engine has probably run a custom action inside the MSI being installed. In other words a piece of custom code to get the application set up correctly.

I would think so yes. Unfortunately I tend to use C# or VBScript and not PowerShell. I guess VBScript is very outdated. I am not familiar with calling .NET dll's from PowerShell.

You can avoid the GUI by going via the Windows Installer API as explained in my answer below.
