@square_eyes: the person who obtained the original had somehow messed it up when emailing it. They re-sent it properly.

comment How to make NFS accesses time out much faster
According to the documentation, the timeo value is in 10th of seconds, and only applies if the soft option is enabled. So the settings I have should fail in under 3s, but that doesn't appear to be the case.

comment How to make NFS accesses time out much faster
@kasperd: it is a single point of failure, and we are planning on moving image storage to S3, but we inherited this architecture and are trying to reduce the potential impact of a failure.

comment postrotate script is not receiving rotated file name
I can calculate the file name, but according to the logrotate man page, I shouldn't have to. So either I'm doing something wrong, or the man page is wrong.

comment Amazon AWS 2-tier Setup
That's not true: I can provide a few cases where this would not work. You can allow access by security group which sounds like what you're describing.

comment How do I allow traffic between security groups in Amazon VPC?
You don't specify what the "traffic" consists of. Those are the two mechanisms for controlling flow and access, but you can't just test one of them: they both have to be right. More details on your route, your security group, and the tests you're performing are needed.

comment Are there simple command line tools to decode a SQL Injection request string?
Sure, but there are hundreds of request that use different techniques for obfuscating the actual request - I was hoping to be able to extract them from my logs, pipe them to a tool, and view the results.

comment Are there simple command line tools to decode a SQL Injection request string?
I'm aware of Havij, and am very familiar with sql injection. But I can't find a simple tool to decode what ends up in the log.

comment Are there simple command line tools to decode a SQL Injection request string?
@GregAskew: That question is asking what happened as a result of an attack. I'm looking for a tool to help me decode the various results.

comment Can I create a wildcard ssl cert for a subdomain?
That's an option, but I'm hoping there is a way to have all subdomains recognized.

@symcbean: I don't disagree, but if he's doing reporting that's probably a good starting place.

comment How should I configure my ELB health check when using NameVirtualHosts and redirecting to www?
I am already using the remote IP to log the requestors IP address (as opposed to the ELB IP) so the 3rd option worked - thanks!

comment How should I configure my ELB health check when using NameVirtualHosts and redirecting to www?
The problem with setting up a default vhost is that the IP address is going to change each time a new instance is spun up or rebooted, and I would like my default AMI to include support for the health check. I'll look into the other options.

@ceejayoz: It would be quick and easy if I understood networking a bit better :(

comment How do I handle mysql replication in EC2 using private IPs?
@ceejayoz: we are trying to duplicate an existing configuration, so moving to RDS isn't in the immediate future. I guess I need to read up on setting up VPC.

@Fuzzyfelt: Turns out the cert was bad. If you want to write up the cert testing as an answer, I'll remove my answer & accept yours.

@mulaz: I actually have the paths specified, I just didn't put them there - I've updated the question.
