comment Windows Tool to read S.M.A.R.T. attributes on SATA drive in HP D2700 Enclosure using P812 Controller
Did you try variations on smartctl -a -l ssd /dev/sda -d sat+cciss,1 from the linked question? There's other options other than cross depending on controller. From your output you're hitting the LV instead of any drive behind it.

comment Set MTU of interface via powershell
i.e.: Set-NetAdapterAdvancedProperty in theory does exactly what I want but isn't available until Windows 8. Also: despite having a MTU property, SetMTU doesn't exist on my system either. :(

Set-NetAdapterAdvancedProperty… OH WAIT! twitter.com/Supermathie/status/542075228860731394 Yeah that's right. Windows. Anything you want is only in the next version.

I already did something very similar (the netsh command on 'Local Area Connection 2') and it only changed the interface MTU but not the physical interface :(. I'll try again.

They end in totally different configurations, neither of which is better for all environments.

comment Interconnecting a fiber optic switch with a copper switch
DACs (copper or optical) are a heck of a lot cheaper than SFP+ LC optics! OK, so for your use case you'll only be hooking up 1Gb, use a 1GBase-T module. But seriously, look at whether you really need 10Gb.
