Thank you, this is the kind of information that will be useful for me. I will ask our electricians if we can get option 1 installed. I had no idea there were even these kinds of solutions available. If you have any additional info that would be appreciated. But this should be enough to get me started! Thanks again!

@joeqwerty We are managing this "datacenter" environment ourselves. It could be considered a large lab environment where no single machine is mission critical, but if a large quantity goes off testing starts failing due to lack of available resources. UPS is not possible because of the cost and amount of power required and the lack of critical resources.

@joeqwerty I've restructured my question. Let me know if that is any better, or if you require additional details. If you require additional details, could you specify what is unclear or what questions you have?

I'm guessing anything that would expose hardware details like failed disks/raid array would likely require some kind of integration with the vendors hardware. VMware has the ability to access these hardware statuses. Any reason it seems less pertinent in KVM? Maybe just lack of vendor interest? I wonder why. RHEV does seem to be the solution to everything else other than hardware based alerts though. I'll likely have to to look into some vendor specific utility like omsa instead for this functionality.

Ryan, thanks for the response I'll be attempting your method in a few days. For now I will be using netcat for windows but I would like to not have to.

Nevermind apparently pipelining works in Windows. I guess my Windows skills need some work. PS C:\Users\root> Write TPC-F11-21-021 | ncat.exe -w 2 10.128.0.20 2069 ERROR unrecognized command close: No error

If I download netcat for windows. How do I "pipe" the output from powershell to the application? I can't really go write "output" | netcat.exe <options> can I?

Thanks! For some reason I didn't even expect that /dev/disk/by-id option was included in kickstart and thought that it would be a %post script that you would have to write.

How would you go about filtering in /dev/disk/by-id ? I think not specifying will work for my scenario. Just curious as to what the filtering criteria would be or how you would perform it reliably.
