comment pfsense log file retention
Is it straightforward to set up a syslog server on the pfsense server? Again, my google skills seem to be failing me here.

Unfortunately pfSense does not use newsyslog, it uses clog. There are some complicated sounding methods to convert it, but I couldn't even work out where to start.

comment What are windows 7 N/KN/VL editions?
Yes. Basically, K editions do not have Windows Messenger, and N editions do not have Windows Media Player. Full details can be found on Microsoft's site: Korean Antitrust settlement versions (Windows K and KN editions): microsoft.com/about/legal/en/us/Antitrust/KoreanOrder/FAQ.aspx European Antitrust settlement versions (Windows N editions): microsoft.com/about/legal/en/us/Antitrust/EUDecision/FAQ.aspx

comment Is there a way to permanently set the font and window size in putty?
It's worth pointing out that you can also save changes to the Default Settings session, which will then be applied to all new sessions you create. You need never see that horrible default font again :)

comment PuTTY alternative on Windows: better saved session organization
+1, mRemoteNG does exactly what the asker requires. It's worth pointing out too that mRemoteNG is a wrapper around PuTTy, so if you're used to PuTTy you will find it simple to transfer.

comment permissions for backup operators to eject disks
Thank you, I've done this but it doesn't seem to have worked. The user is still being prompted for an admin account when ejecting the drive. Does the server need to be rebooted for it to take effect?
