Should old servers be retired Yes, consolidation creates a all eggs in one basket scenario, but by the same token, 5 servers versus one server also creates 5 points of possible failure versus one. You can also hopefully get a new server that will be relatively cheap so you can get several identical servers. Failover then would be simply copying over the VM's to the new server - no need for extensive reinstallation and setup to a different platform. |
