comment How to point a public domain on another server to your localhost on Linux?
Theyh don't offer a development license you can install? That would be very strange.

Chris, when you've made your decision and you've implemented it, after a couple of months "live" with your chosen option would you update/comment on the question saying what you did and what the experience was like? It would be very interesting.

Have you had direct experience using it to completely encrypt a computer's drive, including the system partition? What kind of speed impacts (if any) did you see? Was your experience on a Windows system?

Can you give us anything more to work with? This is so vague that we can't even tell if we should move it to serverfault.

comment Highly random PostgreSQL database host
Regarding hosted servers, I quite happy with the dual quad-core Xeon server with 8GB of RAM and two 500GB 7.2k RPM SATA-II drives in a RAID-1 config from serverloft.com for $179/mo (very close, in current exchange rate terms, to your <£100/mo). Mine's in a DC in the States, but they have a DC in Frankfurt as well. 8GB of RAM offers a lot of room for memory caching from a 12GB working set...

comment Can you recommend me a dedicated server company that has fast servers?
I signed up, but then got a note saying they couldn't process my signup in the EU and could I sign up again from serverloft.com. I had signed up from serverloft.com! And then it wouldn't let me sign up because I was already in the system. It took a couple of days and several emails to get it sorted out. The support thing was beyond cultural diffs (I'm used to those), but has not been repeated on several further contacts. Been with them since Oct and I'm very pleased with the machine and the supports' been just fine.

comment Recommendations for email hosting
I use and love Google Apps for some purposes, but for this purpose there are some things to watch out for. There are limits on sending (for instance, a single account can't send to more than 500 different recipients any given day). They may also treat a large number of bounced outbound messages (bad signups, expired email addresses) as an indicator (one amongst many) that you're spamming. I wouldn't expect any support for free accounts.

comment Which Cloud Computing provider support user-provided Linux kernel?
I've been looking at ElasticHosts the past week and am very impressed. @OP: They offer a five-day free trial, give 'em a spin. You'll want to do some real-world-like tests of performance if your app is disk-bound, since EH's "disks" are all slices of RAID1 arrays to which you may (in some situations) be connected via iSCSI. The one place I'm not yet convinced is disk throughput, but I need to run more tests. The staff are knowledgeable, accessible, and friendly.
