comment Laptop using DHCP lease from another network
No, the DHCP-assigned address it's using is on a random subnet -- not one of ours, and the IP address does not appear in our DHCP lease table. The gateway IP address is also not ours. The laptop seems to be continuing to use a DHCP lease from a completely unrelated network.

comment UPS for 30A service to server racks
OK you are clearly a better searcher than I am, thanks. Also, you're right about the cost of the electrician... nothing is free.

comment Using admin credentials to log on as a user vs. storing passwords
The legal ramifications argument is interesting, and not something I had really thought about.

comment Using admin credentials to log on as a user vs. storing passwords
The IT admins like to log in as a user to configure software, check settings, etc. This can't always be done from the admin account. Some programs store settings per-user, and so they must be configured by that user.

comment EC2 billing for fractional hours
How is this off-topic? "Questions on Server Fault are expected to generally relate to system administration, servers, or professional desktop IT" ... seems like it hits all three of those.

comment Upload website to Windows Server 2008 (on Amazon EC2)
@Richard: I will definitely look into it. Seems useful. Just trying to get a sense of what the possibilities are. I currently do desktop development in .NET and adore the "ClickOnce Deployment" feature, so I guess I was looking for something that simple. But WebDAV is clearly better than FTP, which I was trying to avoid.
