comment fail2ban Error Gentoo
Since the topmost error you get is: ERROR iptables -n -L INPUT | grep -q fail2ban-SSH returned 100 Why don't you try and run it manually and see what the actual error message is...

comment How can I find exactly which PHP scripts are taking up all server resources?
The url's accessed at what time shows you the frequency of requests, not the time a php script takes to finish, doesn't it? If you want to a top-like output of requests you can use apachetop.

It is true that many hosts won't respond to broadcasts, but +1 for running arp -a after running nmap. :)

comment What are the differences between ext3, ext4 , ReiserFS?
Maybe add some pro's an con's to each filesystem. For example, ext2 is the easiest to recover lost files from. On ext2 it is possible to undelete files, which is no longer possible on ext3.

comment cpulimit for FreeBSD
Yes, I knew about the possibility of using limits.conf in a jail, but that's not quite what I was looking for. I guess I'll have to take a look at the cpulimit source and see how it's implemented, and check out the FreeBSD kernel calls to see if it is remotely feasible to implement an equivalent.
