comment Specifying Username/Pass as part of a UNC path or map network drives for a windows service
When you say "the above answer should work" which answer are you referring to? This is (currently) the top rated answer, so there is no answer "above" it.

Why the ! before gzip on the Accept-Encoding line? Surely that's the opposite of what you need?

This isn't a huge problem, but reading that config, if someone manually fetched the .css.gz file, they would get the text/css, when they should get the application/x-gzip type.

I'm amazed this isn't way more obvious, as it seems crazy to have a web server that doesn't do this. I think IIS has a system to cache gzipped copies of static files on first access. mod_deflate doesn't mention such a feature.

I am using TightVNC, so I guess that's it. I'll have to install UltraVNC next time I am physically at the machine. It's only happened on this single occasion, so I won't know for sure if that has fixed it, or if that wasn't the problem.

AFAIK, RDP isn't enabled on this server, so I guess all I can do is power cycle the machine and see if that fixes it, and if it doesn't try safe mode.

No, I'm looking for file compression at one end only. rsyncing already compressed files is inefficient, so I'd like the rsync part to happen with uncompressed data.
