Could you provide examples of the syntax you used with each option? Which version of Windows are you using? How is UAC configured?

You might be looking at a few different, but related, options: Delegation of control, Restricted Groups, group-based NTFS permissions and privilege separation. Someone will probably knock together a good answer, but those terms may be helpful for your searches.

@austinian Indeed. I should expect any decent google search for "override GPO x" to included an answer of "delete the policy key" or "add a Deny Read ACE to the policy key".

@MartinC Do a gpupdate after deleting the policy key above and restarting the Firewall service.

Can you nuke the Firewall policy keys HKLM\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\WindowsFirewall and restart the firewall service? A gpupdate /force might also be worth trying. I'll have to get to a Windows machine to test.

comment What is the most effective solution you used to label cables?
How expensive are those? I don't see pricing on their site. Be sure to pack some extra batteries for the next outage. You wouldn't want the trace probe to be offline.

comment Error in Office 2010 when deploying as part of .wim?
No Office-specific issues I know of with that technique. We do roughly what you describe (software install from net shares, config OS, sysprep) with Win 7 Pro and Enterprise AMD64. No problems with Office 2010 ProPlus or 2013 so far. We did create an admin install point from the Office DVD ISO. We use admin install points whenever possible. There could be something else happening here... Can you verify your Office install media?

comment Error in Office 2010 when deploying as part of .wim?
Based on your comment, I'll have to add: "I'm heavily leaning toward the sentiment that Office was never meant to be deployed via sysprep & image capture." This is incorrect. We've been deploying Office 2010/2013 included in OS WIMs for years now without issue. We also script the Office installation for the initial OS image creation. Something else is breaking in your environment. Need to find out what and where.
