I'm a hobbyist programmer, part-time sysadmin, and full-time data center management, automation, and cloud computing architect and delivery engineer.

I have experience with myriad editors, shells, and OSes. While I have my [strong] preferences, am pretty much beyond the religious wars of "what's best" when it comes to platform, editor, or toolset: if it works for the problem at hand, and you know it, it's [probably] worthwhile :)

I know it's very old - like I said, it's used by HP OO 9.x (which is nearing its EOL, too): and I'm trying to avoid needing to spin-up a second webserver alongside Jetty to serve on port 80 on the same server

if it matters, I'm on Jetty 6.1 (an older app I am not in the position of being able to update)

comment Does the “bs” option in “dd” really improve the speed?
I've only ever futzed with the bs option to make the math easier when making a swapfile (dd if=/dev/zero of=/swapfile bs=8K count=524288 for a 4G swapfile (or 8096 for systems that don't have the non-posix syntax)). The speed consideration is very interesting.

"It's followed, accidentally, just under half the time." - sounds like you need to reverse your standard, so that it's followed just over half the time :)

comment Are ZFS pools or LVM volume groups more reliable for utilizing many partitions?
@STW - and disks in an LVM or ZFS pool can be untransferrable. So your argument holds no water.

comment Are ZFS pools or LVM volume groups more reliable for utilizing many partitions?
@STW - care to elaborate on "all the risks of RAID"? I've been in RAID-ed environments for years.

@STW - while I appreciate your opinion, I have to wonder why you are so vocal in disagreeing with such an established member of the SF community :)
