comment Launching an RDS in a private subnet in VPC and access it from a web application
@Ajis Can you point to examples? This really seems like a network/routing issue, nothing database-related, and perhaps may even be a question for Amazon support, not your peers.

comment sp_msforeachdb does not list all databases on a SQL Server instance
Well, I've seen this in multiple environments over the years, and I can assure you that auto close was never involved. Peter is right on about the cursor, and I suspect that any change to a database would yield this symptom - in your case it was the auto close status. See this, this and this.

comment How can I uninstall SQL Server Express from Windows Server 2008?
Since when does Windows install SQL Server Express by default? Are you talking about Express installed with Visual Studio? If you can't find it in Programs and Features, what evidence do you have that it's even installed?

comment Delete the default instance of SQL Server 2008
This was for 2008 R2 eval edition, but perhaps some of the same techniques would be useful for 2008: sqlblog.com/blogs/aaron_bertrand/archive/2010/10/25/…

comment Database planning - Multiple Schemas vs Multiple Databases vs Single large database vs Partitions
@kishore the maintenance of 150 databases is not a big deal. Scripting and automation should allow you to treat 2 databases and 150 databases about the same. You gain the ability to put "hot" databases on their own disks or even move them to another server. The issue I've come across is trying to accommodate a backup schedule across a large number of databases, and it is a potential issue for you if you need the databases to be transactionally consistent. Otherwise, do not be scared of maintenance. I would argue that a lot of your maintenance will be easier, not harder.
