comment Enterprise desktop antivirus without a Windows server
Oh yeah, and I'm pretty sure the client can be configured to send alerts using an arbitrary SMTP server.

comment How many disks is too many in this RAID 5 configuration?
You can lose UP TO half the disks. If you lose two disks from the same mirror, you're SOL.

comment UPS power requirements for server
If each UPS is running > 50%, then when one is powered down you'll running at about 130%. That can't be too good. And what kind of draw do you see when all those machines start up simultaneously?

comment Server drives: 2.5“ SCSI less reliable than 3.5”?
+1 for small sample size. One drive isn't a sample, it's an anecdote.

comment Snow Leopard Servers built in Wiki vs Mediawiki?
+1 for avoiding unnecessary wiki migration. That's an unpleasant process.

Why do you want to set it up this way? Do you stop trusting the user when they leave your premises?

TomTom: RAID 10 is slower than RAID 0 if you're after pure performance. It's all about balancing your needs.

comment How to setup linux permissions for the WWW folder?
You aren't specifying who would be the owner of the files. Would you leave it as root? Then only sudoers can edit your uploads folder (probably not what you intended).

comment How often do you change your administrator/root password?
What about having something like a "swear jar"? If another admin can manage to break your password (using something like ophcrack), you have to put $5 in the pot.

comment How to setup linux permissions for the WWW folder?
Try to keep script and data separate. Even if an attacker manages to drop something in /uploads/, it shouldn't be executable. Security in layers is key.

comment Setting up a externally facing server on Windows. How do i setup DNS/Nameservers?
Don't forget about reverse DNS. Get your ISP to create a record for your public IP that also points to the domain you set up.

comment Moving Server to new Hardware - SBS 2008
Testing in a physically separate environment (virtual or otherwise) is a good idea. It's the safest way to realize that a simple volume backup/restore just won't work.

comment Moving Server to new Hardware - SBS 2008
The documentation isn't bad. Pages 10-20 explain the core process that needs to be followed. Migrating a DC (especially SBS) is a delicate procedure; I strongly recommend taking the time to read the WHOLE document. It's so much easier than needing to recover from making a mistake.

No. Both system-state backup and full volume backup (ala Ghost) will include parts of the registry that are dependent on the computer hardware, and should only be restored to identical hardware.

comment How to setup linux permissions for the WWW folder?
I don't like the idea of having all web files writable by PHP, it increases your possible exposure if there is a script vulnerability.
