This is a good list of best practices for setting up a new Windows Server domain.

+1 for Terminal Services because it conveniently sidesteps the data replication problem and reduces bandwidth usage.

Using it just on the servers would probably work better. (Protip: recent beta versions of Dropbox support LAN sync, which helps reduce bandwidth usage for computers on the same network)

+1 for Action Pack. From the eligibility requirements: "The Microsoft Action Pack Subscription is designed for all businesses whose primary function is to (i) sell, service, and support or (ii) to build solutions on the Microsoft platform or provide solutions based on Microsoft products and technologies to independent, third-party customers."

+1 for testing recovery procedures. However, I already have a machine with significantly more disk space designed for that task.

That is a great idea! But I checked, and our domain was promoted to the 2003 functional level, so unfortunately it won't work.

Just for interest, I used a Kill-a-Watt on this box, and it draws 160W peak while booting. Not too bad, really.

comment Why are SCSI drives sized so strangely?
quack: Yes, it is a close approximation. But in the past, it was always exactly double. I've clarified my question accordingly.
