comment How do you physically transport your backup media?
Yes, I do take backup tapes home with me. I carry only the tape(s) needed for a certain day, and leave the rest at home. Each month, the most recent full backup is pulled out of rotation and archived at my manager's home. Iron Mountain looks good, but I work for a small business in a somewhat remote area with no tape vaulting services. What would you recommend as an alternative?

Joe: I successfully used Ubuntu Server 9.04 with Samba 3.3.2 to create a PDC. Windows 7 was able to access shares from this server, but only after adjusting the local security policy.

comment Which kind of virtualized networking is fastest?
My takeaway here is that the cpu on my VM host should be as fast as possible. I think I'll try doing some bandwidth tests on various processors, just to be sure.

I was thinking that a VM configured to use internal networking would be slightly less portable. If it was only using bridged networking, then it would see the other servers just as easily even if the VM was moved to a new host.

I've clarified the wording of my question. A DMZ sounds like the right way to go about doing this. How hard is it to set up multiple DMZs?

Wouldn't a simple site-to-site VPN allow their workstations to see our servers, and our workstations to see their servers? I'd like to avoid that if possible.

comment What is a good way to change partition on PC to install new OS?
Just be mindful of the fact that you can only have four primary partitions. If you're using one as a data drive, you can boot at most 3 different kinds of systems, without jumping through some complex hoops.
