comment Why does ssh hang after “debug1: loaded 3 keys”
Try adding more debug information: ssh -vvv command line. Also showing us your ssh_config and your .ssh/config could help.

comment df in linux not showing correct free space after file removal
as root run "lsof -n | grep file," you'd be surprised at how long files can stick around due to processes keeping them open for whatever reason. If all else fails, reboot, I feel bad suggesting it but it will definitely make sure nothing is holding on to the file. Per pehrs, lsof +L1 is probably the better way to go.

comment Trying to create a git repo that does an automatic checkout everytime someone updates origin
Good point, so not only do you need to make sure you are using the .git extension if the repo is non-bare you also need to export the variable in your script.

comment How do you create an ssh key for the apache user on Redhat?
Just an FYI, I assume your /var/www is available to the world. I highly recommend not putting your private key in that directory. There is no reason why it has to be under /var/www. Also there is no reason to over load the apache user for this syncing you are doing. I would use a different account that can also read the files or even use root. If you are pushing to each server using ssh all you need to do is add your public key into the authorized_keys for the accounts you are pushing to.

comment Record everything on command line centos /fedora/ ubuntu
It sounds like they are wanting to monitor people who don't want to be monitored. If neolix uses your solution all the "evil" admins have to do is remove the setting from their environment. Not really much different than clearing the history

comment How should I export a shell variable in bash?
Nowadays /bin/sh is typically a symlink to a dumbed down more strict shell called dash (This is definitely the case in all modern Debian distros). So like the first post states it is better to go with the more portable solution. However dash does seem to support the one line statement :)

comment Linux Software Raid 10 hung after 1 drive failed, mdadm will not let me force remove the faulty device
While this script is interesting and i'll have to look more at how it is adding/removing devices to see if I can force removal but ultimately the system still sees the drive as active. The device doesn't need to be completely dead for software raid to kick it out of the raid1 and in this case some writes failed but the device still "exists"
