I'm a software engineer at the Wikimedia Foundation. I'm on the Flow team. We are building the next discussion system for Wikipedia and sites like it.

In 2010, I earned my BS in Computer Science from Georgia Tech, where I was a research assistant with the Electronic Learning Communities lab.

Feel free to try out ProveIt, a tool we developed at ELC for Wikipedia reference management.

You can contact me here.

It sounds like he has access to all 4 included as part of his hosting package. And PostegreSQL is free and open source too.

Exactly, ceejayoz, the web server still must have privileges to manipulate the db, whether from near or afar.

digg.com/apple/VNC_control_of_a_Mac_under_OS_X_10.4 and geekzone.co.nz/forums.asp?forumid=47&topicid=11647 both corroborate 10.4.

comment Command line recursive/deep directory copy in Linux?
As I noted above, -a is not strictly portable.

It's also relevant to this one, as Zoredache said he encountered a system that "didn't have [...] a cp that would copy recursively". Basically, -R -> portable, -a -> not portable.

-R has long since been part of the standard (opengroup.org/onlinepubs/009695399/utilities/cp.html) though not -a.

comment How should I securely wipe data from a hard drive?
Grant (and others) are right. It's financially unprofitable to win that challenge. More importantly, it can only tip people off that you have the capability.

comment How to make Windows 7 USB flash install media from Linux?
I think GParted (gparted.sourceforge.net) can handle all the partition flags just fine. See e.g. gparted.sourceforge.net/screenshots.php . And I haven't tested but it looks like rsync can substitute for robocopy in that checklist.
