comment Nginx 400 Bad Request on ec2 Public IP works, but domain name does not
There is most likely still an old process running in the background. The port 8000 problem is probably related to some other code that is binding to 8000 within your wsgi application.

comment How do I reboot over SSH, so that fsck can be run, on a read-only file system without sudo (or root)?
Actually... if it's already read-only, who says you cannot do an fsck already?

Everything is readonly and non-editable? Not even /boot? Also, is there any way to get remote IPMI or serial terminal up and running?

comment How do I ask apt-get to skip all post-install configuration steps?
That's a way to work around it, but that would be a temporary measure I assume? Atleast... I think that way you would globally disable all service starts.

That's just to skip interactive steps. Those are not the problem here, these are the non-interactive post-install steps that fail if something like service rabbitmq-server start fails.

revised How do I ask apt-get to skip any interactive post-install configuration steps?
The question is about interactive post-install steps, not about all post-install steps
