There is also other alternative UPS software for Windows -- I've personally used Apcupsd in the past (with a UPS that had also sh- I mean "very very not good" software)

comment Why running named(bind) in chroot is so important for security? Or maybe it is not ?
To add to the question: How is this affected by modern use of virtual machines? For any moderately sized deployment it's increasingly likely to dedicate a VM to each task, so it has no other data/applications on it. Is there still a real benefit in chrooting?

comment How do you configure Web Proxy Autodiscovery Protocol (WPAD) when you have no proxy?
I've been noticing this issue for well over 10 years, probably back to Windows 2000. In that time I've used many different systems on many different networks set up by completely different people, so I'm pretty sure it's not just me (though I'm certainly less tolerant than most of computers doing pointless and avoidable things). I accept that many people are fine with just always waiting the 10 seconds or so, but that doesn't mean there shouldn't be an answer for how to do this, so IT people that care to fix it can do so.

Because I believe in automation over repetition. This is a default setting; the implication of this is that the default behaviour the end user sees is "wait until it times out".. to me, this is stupid. Working out a general config that could be put in place to make it work for both enterprise users (where you can control via GPOs) and also home users (where routers could handle this in some way) is better than thousands of users turning it off on millions of PCs, or simply living with the timeout. Maybe the router firmwares like dd-wrt will provide this by default even.

comment Local DNS Propagation?
You should use dig www.domain.com or nslookup -debug www.domain.com (windows) to debug this. You'll be able to see which DNS server is being queried, and exactly what it's responding with, including the TTL values it has. Post the output in your question if you don't understand it.

comment Apache requests stuck in '..reading..' state
Is KeepAlive on, and what is your KeepAliveTimeout? What are your TimeOut and LimitRequestBody values? Note that the default TimeOut is 300, which is pretty high - 60 is probably a better value. LimitRequestBody default is 0, which means unlimited request body size -- something smaller probably makes more sense, eg, a few MB's, or even 128 or 64kb if you don't use file uploads.
