@korkman ...Which is what effectively occurred manually. Automating such behavior is opening up a whole new can of worms. The time/effort costs would start to outweigh getting more 'correct' hardware, like SAS.

@chrishiestand No, I haven't. I left company in Jan 13; if I had stayed we would have built the replacement box with near line. Alas, the NAS's existence was too closely tied to my own and the data was moved to a service provider's SAN.

I feel your pain, have had the same issue myself. I'm actually giving up on Ubuntu 12.04. And am trying to sync back to a Debian 6 target and see the similar messages.
