comment FreeBSD: netatalk3 daemon keeps restarting
I couldn't get myself to signing up to yet another mailing list or forum just for a single question, but I got a pointer in IRC #freebsd, updating post...

I was afraid someone was going to say that, but you're right of course. I was just hoping someone has an idea why a server on FreeBSD in general would keep restarting like that - no error message, no hint in any logs ?!?

comment Ubuntu 12.04.2 LTS Server - Randomly hangs with no logging
I had a somewhat similar issue a while ago. Replaced pretty much all hardware, tried a different OS. I'm still not 100% sure what the actual issue was, but I still suspect it was a faulty SATA cable. If I had to go through that again, I'd probably start with replacing the cables as they are cheapest. Good luck!

Not an expert at LDAP myself, but dc=localhost doesn't sound like a good idea to me. Use a domain instead and if you don't have one, make one up. I've spent a couple of weeks now trying to get my head around LDAP, but it seems to have quite a learning curve. In terms of administering the server, I found Apache Directory Studio to be really helpful if you don't know what you're doing (as is the case with myself).
