comment How to ADD one module to initrd using mkinitrd
and the link to initrd-util says it hadn't been tested on the cpio style archives initrd uses now.

I was thinking of using the Fedora 9 Rescue disk (install DVD in rescue mode). I guess I could boot the IDE drive again, add the module then reclone the drive too.. Guess I'm playing it too safe!

mkinitrd is supposed to handle most of the mechanics of that stuff.. its what fedora uses when it updates the kernel.. so I just want to "trick" it into adding the sata module needed.

comment Using DD for disk cloning
I found the documentation a little rough, and cloning a linux PATA drive to a SATA drive did Not leave me with something I could boot (yet). But much faster to same result as dd, and it worked great for my laptop drive upgrades.

It wasn't clonezilla's fault - rather fedora's and trying to clone and IDE boot drive to sata.. Clonezilla did just fine on the Windows XP laptop whose drive I'm upgrading.

clonezilla had issues with the lvm.. on the copy its not found.. Next took a while but less time than native dd from Ubuntu. (but it uses dd, prob with larger block sizes.)

I could have easily LOST everything on my server with dd, when trying to run it from the Ubuntu LIVE cd.. since the drives names were OPPOSITE what they were when booted into my system. and the duplicate drive didn't boot to boot, after 6 hours running the copy.

Everyone I know uses Acronis.. but I'm going to try clonezilla first, since the first system I want to move to a larger disk is linux only.
