comment Partial-stroking / Short-stroking / Half-stroking Hard Drives?
So... You're basically minimizing the 960GB drive to 800GB to get those numbers. This does somewhat lengthen the life of the drive, as well. I would like to know actual throughput compared to short-stroked, or even just a couple RAIDed 10k or 15k drives. It also matters large block read and writes. IOPS for random reads and writes is nowhere near the whole picture. I can't find a direct comparison chart for any spinning drive, unfortunately.

I can get two 15k SAS spinning hard drives for less than half what the 960GB Samsung 843T costs. I have a hard time believing the SSD is faster than short-stroking four 15-k drives to a higher capacity.

I'd say answer your own question and mark it, since you solved it yourself.

Unfortunately, it would not apply. It has to do with how the network is set up, and I have no way to fix it myself.

That's pretty much what I had determined, but I was hoping for a better answer. If no better answer pops up, I'll accept this one in a day or two.

Just to clarify, everything works perfectly except the CPU Utilization? I believe that's what you said but I want to make sure I understand.
