It'll slow down the SSD too to some extent, but not enough to be meaningful here. The penalty on the HDD side is an order of magnitude higher than the penalty on the SSD side.

It looks like that xfs_db data isn't useful here, what could be helpful to figure out some of where the problem might be would be xfs_info /dev/xvda1, which will give us some details about how the xfs filesystem is set up.
