Does LookupAccountName accept UPN or sAMAccountName or fully qualified DOMAIN\sAMAccountName, or all of the above? It isn't clear from the documentation you link to.

I've encountered a few applications (both internally developed and things other people have done) that authenticates through LDAP using the cn field. This field now gets updated automatically in AD Admin Center (it's labelled Full Name) if you change the first or last name fields, meaning you can't assume that the cn field can be considered a username field. Have these developers been using the wrong field, or has Microsoft broken cn?
