I work at a large international development charity in London, as International Operations Manager. I manage a team of Regional ICT Service Managers, based in developing world countries, who keep our users happy through fixing problems, setting up great connectivity and generally making sure users can do their day jobs.

I previously worked at the same place as International Network Systems Analyst. I looked after a bunch of ICT systems in offices in the developing world, as well as looking after systems in our HQ. I gained a lot of knowledge in that job, and the techy side competes with the people stuff in the new role, hence I still hang out here a lot.

I'm passionate about the use of ICT in developing countries, both in terms of dealing with the inherent problems for ICT in those places, and using ICT as a tool for development.

comment What sort of network problems can a single NIC host cause?
Yeah - we swapped the cable out for a known good one, and checked the existing cable on another computer. Not a cable issue...

comment What tools should I use to assess bandwidth for web server farm..?
Just checking, but will you be moving all your servers into the new datacenter? Surely the new datacenter won't charge you for traffic between the servers inside the datacenter?

I think you need to give more information about your DHCP config - why are your 10.X NICs getting config from DHCP? Sounds like you don't want that config so why not use static config on those NICs?

Hah - I am SO glad we replaced that old VPN Concentrator with a ASA 5510! We don't see this problem anymore since then, but other changes have also occurred in the last two years.

comment SharePoint (WSS 3.0) not updating permissions based on Active Directory Security Groups
Joel Olson has a long blog entry on use of different group types at blogs.msdn.com/b/joelo/archive/2007/06/29/…. Probably worth a look there.
