I work at a large international development charity in London, as International Operations Manager. I manage a team of Regional ICT Service Managers, based in developing world countries, who keep our users happy through fixing problems, setting up great connectivity and generally making sure users can do their day jobs.

I previously worked at the same place as International Network Systems Analyst. I looked after a bunch of ICT systems in offices in the developing world, as well as looking after systems in our HQ. I gained a lot of knowledge in that job, and the techy side competes with the people stuff in the new role, hence I still hang out here a lot.

I'm passionate about the use of ICT in developing countries, both in terms of dealing with the inherent problems for ICT in those places, and using ICT as a tool for development.

Yeah - we would certainly pilot this, but if someone answers the question saying "we tried this already in Nairobi and it melted through the floor" then I won't bother :-)

Probably you'll get a better response posting this on StackOverflow (or find someone already answered the same question there)

comment ASA: How to connect server with a external IP address already assigned?
Effectively the same. You should mark your answer as accepted (and probably update it to say what you did so in future people can benefit from what you learned) :-)

comment Is Selling Old Cisco Routers a Security Issue?
Yeah - frustrating to then have to get a USB dongle, and they usually come with no documentation so you spend a while figuring out how to access. I'm sure a few people have got the blue cable with an RJ45 at one end and spent hours trying to figure out how to configure. Dell switches come with a cable with Serial connector at one end and a USB port at the other. No documentation, and I never figured out how they worked. It's a closed cult :-)

comment Windows Home Basic and Domain or LDAP
I wouldn't assume this is off topic just because Windows Home Edition is mentioned. In my professional experience in multiple organisations, you are sometimes challenged to join a computer someone has purchased with a home edition of Windows on it. The answer you give as a professional is that you can't and the person should not have bought the cheap computer without going through the regular procurement procedures. Just because not every single user approaches things in a professional manner doesn't mean the OP isn't a pro!

It isn't really tested unless you tested it yourself in your own environment :-)

You may have better luck with this question if you say which model routers you are currently using.

I agree - post your solution as an answer and people will vote it up, you get points, and the questions can be marked as answered properly.

comment What happens if you install an SSL certificate?
You do need to worry about this. They will install the certificate for you on their webserver, but the security if your web application is not guaranteed by the presence of an SSL certificate. SSL just secures data between the browser and the server. You are still responsible for how your application works and handles data once it recieves it. Simply having an SSL certificate in place will not be sufficient for most audits.
