I work at a large international development charity in London, as International Operations Manager. I manage a team of Regional ICT Service Managers, based in developing world countries, who keep our users happy through fixing problems, setting up great connectivity and generally making sure users can do their day jobs.

I previously worked at the same place as International Network Systems Analyst. I looked after a bunch of ICT systems in offices in the developing world, as well as looking after systems in our HQ. I gained a lot of knowledge in that job, and the techy side competes with the people stuff in the new role, hence I still hang out here a lot.

I'm passionate about the use of ICT in developing countries, both in terms of dealing with the inherent problems for ICT in those places, and using ICT as a tool for development.

comment Nagios plug-in check_snmp receives NO SNMP data from a CISCO Router
It's the version of SNMP in use on the equipment you are monitoring. You specific -v1 in your snmpget command. Run the check_snmp command without any flags to get the syntax. Mine uses -P to declare the SNMP version to use. It's an optional variable. I think the default would be 2c, so if your equipment only uses version 1 you would need to declare it when invoking check_snmp

Which version of the ASA software are you using? ASA 8.4 includes user based access-control which might work for you.

comment Server hacked - want to run an rsync backup in reverse. Will this work?
It got closed after the question had been edited. People clearly will vote to close a question just because someone else voted to close it. Not good for the site or the community.

Wow - people start putting questions into other people's mouths and then closing on the basis of a duplicate of that? Way too much of this going on here these days. So if firefusion had just asked "how do I restore from rsync" without hanging a story about hacking around it, would this have been closed?

This is clearly not a duplicate of that question - this one is quite specific, whereas the other one was a plain "what should I do?"

Surely you need some hot air blowers in there to dry out the carpet.

+1 for realism - some people on this forum forget that there is a real world out there that everyone has to deal with, rather than some miraculous instant implemention of the perfect solution.

comment How to enable system restart on BSOD from commandline
Look in the BIOS settings as well - your server needs to know to turn on after a power failure.
