I work at a large international development charity in London, as International Operations Manager. I manage a team of Regional ICT Service Managers, based in developing world countries, who keep our users happy through fixing problems, setting up great connectivity and generally making sure users can do their day jobs.

I previously worked at the same place as International Network Systems Analyst. I looked after a bunch of ICT systems in offices in the developing world, as well as looking after systems in our HQ. I gained a lot of knowledge in that job, and the techy side competes with the people stuff in the new role, hence I still hang out here a lot.

I'm passionate about the use of ICT in developing countries, both in terms of dealing with the inherent problems for ICT in those places, and using ICT as a tool for development.

comment How can I attach a volume to a Windows instance on Amazon EC2?
This question contains very little information, so you won't get a specific answer. Please restate your question with more details of your environment.

comment What does this strange network/subnet mask mean?
The outside interface is not configured by DHCP. It is static, and doesn't connect directly to the internet. I don't think that has anything to do with the errors I am seeing.

comment cannot log on to server 2008 with local user
Why don't you just login to your laptop with your normal domain account? Cached credentials will allow you to do this even if you are not connected to the domain.

comment Accessing vm(vmware instance) from ESX server through commandline
Something like the Vmware Management Assistant VM available for download from VMware is probably the way to go instead of using the Service Console.

I don't think the IP pool functionality is available in ESX 3.5.
