I work at a large international development charity in London, as International Operations Manager. I manage a team of Regional ICT Service Managers, based in developing world countries, who keep our users happy through fixing problems, setting up great connectivity and generally making sure users can do their day jobs.

I previously worked at the same place as International Network Systems Analyst. I looked after a bunch of ICT systems in offices in the developing world, as well as looking after systems in our HQ. I gained a lot of knowledge in that job, and the techy side competes with the people stuff in the new role, hence I still hang out here a lot.

I'm passionate about the use of ICT in developing countries, both in terms of dealing with the inherent problems for ICT in those places, and using ICT as a tool for development.

+1 for "stepping all over crime scene". Unless you know exactly what you are doing, or don't really care to collect exact forensic evidence, then you may want to call in the experts rather than pollute the evidence as you learn how to do forensics...

I have this same issue. Did you ever resolve this?

comment How can I get logwatch to process alternate apache logs?
Note that your logwatch reports won't specify which logfile a particular item came from (e.g. Local File Inclusion probes) with combined logfile format.

comment Block facebook even in the case users get their hands on tor, freegate and similar applications
I imagine that Blackberry and corporate cell phone use would limit the number of these that are in place in the corporate environment - and seems like total overkill to prevent staff checking Facebook.

comment do I need to install fail2ban on CentOS
-1 Can you qualify this further? Is there not a risk of Denial of Service from brute force attacks that fail2ban reduces?

comment Postfix character encoding?
If it is only your VPS provider who is seeing the incorrect name, but the rest of the world gets it, seems like the problem may lie with them. But if they are just seeing a malformed name, is the problem a big one?

comment VMware vSwitches and Dell PowerConnect BPDU guard
Sorry - I got a bit confused with Dell's different terminology/functions. I can't actually enable/disable bpduguard at all. Dell offer bpdu-protection, which might be the same thing and can only be enabled globally (default is off - so what happens if I switch it on now?) and bpdufilter which looks like something else altogether.
