I work at a large international development charity in London, as International Operations Manager. I manage a team of Regional ICT Service Managers, based in developing world countries, who keep our users happy through fixing problems, setting up great connectivity and generally making sure users can do their day jobs.

I previously worked at the same place as International Network Systems Analyst. I looked after a bunch of ICT systems in offices in the developing world, as well as looking after systems in our HQ. I gained a lot of knowledge in that job, and the techy side competes with the people stuff in the new role, hence I still hang out here a lot.

I'm passionate about the use of ICT in developing countries, both in terms of dealing with the inherent problems for ICT in those places, and using ICT as a tool for development.

comment How can I tell what version of SharePoint a site is using, from the outside?
Unfortunately not - I only have one version of SharePoint and it is customised. You could always just ask the site administrator what version they use, although I think they would be suspicious (as am I) of why you want to know. Perhaps you can expand your question - people may sit on their hands if they think you are probing sites to discover potential to make mischief :-)

comment Is the Sharepoint logo necessary?
If you say what version of Sharepoint you are using someone may tell you how to change the logo.

Unless it has been heavily customised it is usually pretty obvious from the UI, but perhaps you mean a specific version number, rather than WSS/MOSS 2003/7 or Sharepoint 2010 etc?

comment What do I get for a paid DNS?
By the way, your choice of DNS provider may depend on exactly what you are using the domain for. WikiLeaks had their DNS record pulled last week by EveryDNS, who bought DynDNS. So if you are setting up a *Leaks website, you probably want to use someone else ;-)

comment Help me fight this spaghetti monster [cabling]
Use labelling that can be removed, and remove it as soon as you remove a cable for a particular purpose. And never leave a cable connected at only one end for longer than absolutely necessary. Someone will plug it in where they shouldn't.

comment Display Document Library Folder contents on a different Sharepoint 2007 Site
There are web parts that can access document libraries on other web applications and site collections - e.g. My Sharepoint Sites which displays documents I have recently edited on any site I specify. So this isn't technically impossible.

If you aren't ssh'd in do you get the same issue? What user account are you running the command as?

comment how to restrict ssh login to a specific ip or host
The purpose of ListenAddress is to define the IP address that your SSH server is listening for SSH connections with. Your server may have multiple IP addresses, so you use ListenAddress to say which one someone can use to make an SSH connection on. It has nothing to do with the IP address of the person trying to make an SSH connection.

Why don't you want to use "any iptables thing"? That will do what you want simply and securely, and knowing how to use it will serve you well for every other network tool you want to secure.

It is the IP address that SSH is listening on. Not the address it is listening to.
