comment Delete files older than X days on remote server with SCP/SFTP
@Mike I was under the impression that you could negotiate adding a cron job with the administrator of the server hosting your backup files - my apologies if this is not possible.

comment mod_rewrite Configuration for No Extensions and PHP Handling
+1 !\.(js|ico|gif|jpg|png|css)$ - Good call, makes sense to skip PHP if the resource type isn't supported

comment Dedicated hosting for email marketing
You might consider doing a little research on the many other companies which offer the same service - a WHOIS should put you on the right track to determining where they get their hosting...

comment File redirection via PHP cost
What is preventing you from using absolute paths for stylesheets, images and scripts? If the resource is going to be the same for every request, it only makes sense to use an absolute path.

comment Information about recent code injection from http://superiot.ru
While there is still a strong likelihood that the attack was automated, you should probably respond to this incident as though a malicious user has access to your systems (because he probably does, if he bothers using it).

+1 Using a load balancer would require ... loading up another box with all the same bottlenecks and resource contention as the present setup

comment remotely dump & retrieve mysql db
@Bastien - something like this: tar czf ./file.sql.gz ./file.sql should be sufficient on a Linux box - on a Windows box (which is where you'll probably want to create the dump if it needs to be compressed) you can use ZIP compression, transfer the file to your Linux box over SCP, and then use gunzip

comment Which is the most efficient way (performance) to add functionality to MediaWiki?
Glad to help! In principle it's best to waste other peoples' resources (like your display:none example) versus wasting your own - but I see you already knew that!
