comment URL rewrite with multiple parameters using .htaccess
@VirtuosiMedia - Your regexp needs to have reliable boundaries (i.e. category name, use of /, etc) ... otherwise it makes more sense to put your URI->application behavior parsing into the application itself.

comment How can we protect data on managed hosts(vps, cloud, etc)?
+1 If you think your data is worth more than twice what you pay per month in hosting expenses, you probably need to re-evaluate why you're paying so little to keep it secure.

@Recursion - Encryption which hides data from your hosting provider can only occur before the data reaches your hosting provider.

comment Hang and broken pipe when rebooting over ssh
A review of man reboot would suggest that using the force option precludes a normal shutdown for sshd - i.e. you're killing sshd and your client is (legitimately) notifying you. Hiding with redirection to /dev/null is the only way around the warning if you have to use the force option on the remote server.

comment Apache RewriteRule to treat images, css and js files as normal
+1 ... but the second RewriteCond regexp would be more precise if the period preceding the file extension were escaped.

comment MediaWiki SearchEngine that behaves like google
Gotcha. There's also the option to acquire a Google search appliance if you're dealing with a corporate intranet and can expense it (linked). Favorited your question as I'm equally interested to see if anyone else has found an open source solution which beats Lucene and Sphinx. GSA: google.com/enterprise/search/gsa.html

comment MediaWiki SearchEngine that behaves like google
MediaWiki search is often problematic, but have you considered simply applying a Google Custom Search? It'd certainly line up with your requirements and it would probably save you some time/money testing out less-than-adequate alternatives.

comment Attach linux VPS as if it were on my local lan
@Glenn Kelley - You might want to use backticks or "code sample" spacing to enclose root shell examples (as you may have noticed, the # is treated as markup if it is the first character on the line)
