I've been in the IT industry since 2000. I have a degree in physics but chose to make my career in IT. Currently I spend more time working with system security than writing code but when I have the time I enjoy perl, php and mysql.

Currently working on:

LAMP servers
Postfix
Windows Server 2008
Network Administration
Security Administration
Asterisk

you could reference the pastebin.com javascript at the bottom of your web page so that while your load time wasn't decreased, the rest of the page load would complete quickly. Kind of like waving your hand to distract the website visitor.

if you can access it via a javascript you should be fine. I'll do my best to find my code for a customer and post it for you later tonight. It's specific to javascript and php but you could probably adapt it to your environment. The javascript is a one liner and it's used to load a completely formatted badge with images and stats onto any webpage (background process via php).

You'll use your javascript code to (in my case) call php script that does the actual call to the remote server.

@joeqwerty - I agree. I would attempt to tackle this like I was using an api for rss feeds. Cache them and only update when a change occurs on the remote server. You can not manage (to any great degree) the loads times caused by requests to external servers that you don't control.

comment rsync general question
can you edit your question and provide the actual output you'd like us to see rather than providing links? Also, if the files didn't change then they didn't change so nothing to see.

This may not be indicative of .htaccess not being allowed. put AuthUserFile /home/mysite/.htpasswd in your .htaccess file and then tail your log files. If you see an error (assuming .htpasswd doesn't exist) then .htaccess is being fired off but not doing what you had hoped for when using dvdcatalog tutorial.

+1 packs - good point. I haven't seen that issue since upgrading to 2.6 on Centos 5.5 (64bit)
