comment Nicer hostnames on EC2 (+Rightscale)
Would that solve reverse lookup as well? Rechecking list of instances every 5 minutes on one server is fine - rechecking it every 5 minutes on every server doesn't seem like such a great idea.

comment Log compression without indefinitely long lag?
bzip2 is a totally different story as it works with 100kB-900kB blocks at a time, but gzip is a straightforward stream compressor and can easily flush at any byte. Here's manual for the underlying zlib library which contains gzflush function. The problem is that this existing underlying functionality doesn't seem to be exposed by gzip program.

comment Proxy to substitute particular URLs?
Is there any tutorial document explaining how to configure them for that particular purpose? I imagine something could be hacked based on apache/lighttpd/etc. but has it been done before?

comment Proxy to substitute particular URLs?
Wouldn't redirecting as opposed to substituting on flight mess up with the same origin policy?
