Hello, my name is Chris. I'm a husband, father, and son; work as a systems administrator; and help my friends and family at every opportunity. Perhaps it's best to leave this short, and say I'm someone who's glad to meeting you and hope I can help with whatever problems.

I'm a Windows administrator by day; but my first passion is FreeBSD and Open Source Software. I put my money where my mouth is on a quarterly basis. I'm inspired everyday by my peers, their abilities, drive, and passion for competent applications of technology and supporting operationals. As a Myers-Briggs INTJ and DISC C/D I value Quality highly and at times can be a purist. Incomplete jobs are loans with high interest (see Technical Debt).

comment Is it possible that the VPS service provider can access my Windows VPS even I have changed the default password?
Yes it takes a little bit more than just mounting the disk image. But it's not much more than that, especially with actual forensic tools. I've used a program that you literally point at the disk image and the memory dump, it does the rest for BitLocker or TruCrypt.

comment Best way to optimize (loss-less) thousands of jpgs in a windows folder structure?
Firebug's "optimization" was a lossy compression process. For most images it simply reduced the image quality by a small enough amount that people wouldn't notice but the file size shrinks drastically. This is a very noticeable difference in JPEG images with quality levels over 90%.

comment Is there a way to force a TRIM in a Windows 2012 Software RAID array?
Probably, it would depend on what the precompactor does...

@JamesRyan That refers to hardware RAID1, where the Trim/Unmap commands would almost certainly be dropped by the hardware controller that doesn't support them (though it's certainly possible that the hardware controller does support Trim/Unmap pass-through).

comment Why won't this RAM work in my HP Proliant DL380 G4 server?
(not trying to be snarky or pedantic, and apologies for chiming in years later, Q was just flagged for mod attention) People downvote and don't answer because it takes more effort to come up with a correct answer, and most people are reluctant to put that effort into a question that shows a distinct lack of effort. GIGO.

comment Powershell script scheduled task will not end
What action do you have setup in the task? You might be running PowerShell with the script as a start-up script, with would run the script and then leave the CLI open indefinitely.

comment What's the default superuser username/password for postgres after a new install?
Welcome to Server Fault! We really do prefer that answers have content, not pointers to content. This may theoretically answer the question however, it would be preferable to include the essential parts of the answer here, and provide the link for reference. This post will be removed if not improved. Thank you!

comment After UPS battery replacement (HP R/T 3000)
+1 Just do it off-hours. Particularly if you didn't get HP batteries (which come with directions, so I'm thinking he got off-name batteries - this will also validate that the batteries will even work, I've seen plenty of cheap replacement batteries that plain don't work in UPSs).

Half of the active moderators are in UTC-5, and -8 isn't much different. Our biggest need is around 0800-1200 UTC. I think you'd be a good moderator, interested in moving to Europe?
