I'm just a simple System Administrator, who does a bit of programming on the side (mostly C and Perl).

I'm a Windows administrator by day; but my true love is FreeBSD and Open Source Software. I put my money where my mouth is on a quarterly basis. I'm inspired everyday by my peers, their abilities, drive, and passion for competent applications of technology and supporting operational efficiency.

I'm a Myers-Briggs INTJ and DISC C/D. I value Quality highly and at times I can be a purist. Incomplete jobs are loans with high interest (see Technical Debt).

1. Do you have the EMS open? 2. Are you sure this is Exchange 2010?

@EvanCarroll Part of the agreement when becoming a Mod is that you may not disclose information gained by being a moderator. For example, messages sent to users (and their replies), may not be disclosed. This is directly at odds with your promises under Transparency, do you feel this might be a problem? Do you feel that you could live up to the moderator agreement?

comment Is there research material on NTP accuracy available?
+1 I run a pool server as well and hitting >20ms variation from a monitor clear across the country is odd.

NTP hasn't changed in at least 14 years, why would it's accuracy have changed significantly?? As mentioned below, NTP is not meant to be super accurate, it's meant to get within 1s (which is probably where that underinformed quote came from). If you need sub 1ms accuracy then you'd want to use PTP. I really can't see any value in studying the accuracy of something that in very wide deployment does exactly what it was intended to do.

comment Hyper-V Performance Monitoring
@JamesHill Unfortunately the basic tools are what's free, and are purposely limited. A SC DC License (which includes SCOM, SCVMM, and others) would run $1000-3600 (depending on exactly what kind of non-profit you are and how you buy) and there's subscription based models (which are roughly 1/3 that price per year).

I think you're looking for System Center Ops Manager or Virtual Machine Manager. MS might give Hyper-V away free, but all the advanced management stuff is in the System Center Suite, and a long way from free. Sidenote: ESXi from VMWare does most of the same stuff that Hyper-V does and is also free, both companies give away roughly the same base platform then charge you for all the nice management software.

GoDaddy has little to do with it. What you're asking is called DNS Failover, and is rather unreliable at best. In any case, it still has to point to another server which has to accept traffic for your domain. There are quasi-free options available, but it's still another server...

comment Create an sql script that compares two schemas and updates schema and insert date of update in a column in oracle 11g
This certainly can be done. It's not very simple however. We have two "problems" with your question however. Server Fault only caters to Professional System Administrators - that "Professional" bit requires reasonable effort on your part, which it looks like you haven't tried at all. The second is that Server Fault really only deals with the database software and DBMS maintenance - there's a Database Administrators site for more advanced queries like what you're wanting to do. However, be warned that they require minimum effort as well. I'd suggest searching for scripts on the net that do similar tasks and start there.
