comment running multiple php versions in parallel
I came here to ask a similar question tonight. I'm increasingly needing to keep some sites on older versions of PHP while running others on 5.5+, and it's a pain to compile all bar one (I use Ubuntu). We can't be the only ones with this issue.

comment SmartOS Virtualization with one public IP address
Thanks for your answer, would this help with routing SFTP (or SSH) to each zone? Multiple public IP addresses would make things easier but are in short supply at the moment!

comment MaxClients in apache. How to know the size of my proccess?
Thanks symcbean, and yes this is a real traffic profile (though the spikes are caused by bots). Here is the output from top: pastebin.com/hiDY1xMz Jetty/solr and MySQL are comparitively large, but it doesn't add up to near the memory usage (even allowing for OS?)

Sorry, see pastebin.com/aHZCagVn for httpd.conf settings and sample output. By 'crash' I mean too many clients, the server runs out of memory and locks up. Please see pastebin.com/fnXzBfQL for more.

For me, buffers/cache changes very little whether running 11 clients or when the server has reached 86 or 151 clients (and the server has crashed). What do you expect to see in your MEM variable? I get two numbers, so wondering if Ubuntu 12.04 is giving something other than you expected.

comment Hotmail sending email to A record not MX records
Hmm, all the online services I tested were correct. However, pinging my nameservers, it turns out that the first server had disappeared offline and was no longer resolving - looks like I need a more reliable DNS provider. I've updated this and suspect it'll now work as expected.

comment rdiff-backup - can it work when installed locally only? Dreamhost backup
Thanks Erik, I had given it a try and was unable to figure out how to get it to work. I will look at rsnapshot instead, or maybe Duplicity - though a tool that can continue a full backup if the network connection is lost (rather than starting again) is greatly preferred.

Thanks for the information andol. That sounds a good approach though the bandwidth used if every file has to be read back is probably more than my ADSL connection should use!
