comment Which distribution of linux is secured and easy to use, for a web server?
Just having two choices does not make a dilemma. Wikipedia, for instance, says that both choices should be unacceptable. In common usage, you usually need a potential tragedy or some element of drama. Godaddy might be that bad :) or it might not.

comment Is there a `tail -f` equivalent for when a file is overwritten (instead of appended to)?
I wonder if screen could be coerced into doing this with some help from a script of some sort.

Keep in mind that running several old computers at the same time will generate heat and can really run up your electric bill.

gentoo linux is hard for a beginner. All that compiling. I'd suggest Ubuntu. An old electricity-guzzling computer may or may not be faster than a new atom-based one, but atom sacrifices performance to get that energy efficiency.

If you have enough computers and some unenclosed space, you can disassemble them and then bend the cases into any shape wall or ceiling you need. Since the cases will define the room, save the innards for use as the servers. Sandpapering where the cases meet and welding is better than using hooks -- but sometimes you have to use whats available. For internet you can use a pringles can with a dipole in the back, as someone always has an open wifi nearby.

comment Virtualization solutions for a small Linux server?
Getting bridging, etc... working on kvm was difficult and it doesn't play well with Virtualbox. Currently, the kvm kernel module must be unloaded if you want the Virtualbox kernel module to load. That being said, I found either to be quite usable alone. I thought kvm was a bit better for headless / vnc servers and virtualbox was better for UI.

comment Servers harrassed by individual on constantly changing IPs
@Farseeker - Civil sanctions can be useful but a kid offender doesn't have the deep pockets to attract the lawyers. In contrast, you might recall a certain cult church that lost millions of dollars in one such suit, over protesting funerals with outrageous signs and slogans. I realize this is an opinion or a feeling, but there is something unnerving about prosecuting criminally for speech or publication.
