comment How to replace NVRAM battery in BlueArc storage?
@TomO'Connor Those are very good tips. I haven't thought about doing a search from a service engineers point of view. Very clever! Thanks a lot for the doc and search tips!

@TomO'Connor Can I ask how you found this document, as it is exactly what I was looking for, and the word BlueArc is not even mentioned anywhere.

@MichaelHampton Yes, it is officially phased out from production, but it just a shame to throw it out I think, as it have always "just worked". So I will use it for temp space, where the data can be regenerated if it breaks, so no harm done.

I moved all critical data from the host before the support ran out. It was a nice box, but way too expensive for our needs. The Mercury model have EOL this year, so the support is even higher now. I would like to change the battery myself, because it is "so easy" (just write the correct CLI command) after battery change.

If I do that then I get CHECK_NRPE: Received 0 bytes from daemon. Check the remote server logs for error messages.

comment Why does a failed ZFS disk still seem to work fine?
I don't doubt ZFS' errors reports, I just find it very strange I can't get ZFS to report the errors again in another pool. The disks are going into the pile of RMA disks =)

comment How to handle IP's with manual failover?
This is automatic failover, which is not what I want. I use ucarp on other servers though.

Very nice. I have killed the processes, but still get permission denied. See updated OP. Any idea what is going on?

comment Possible to install vmware tools 5.5 on Ubuntu 12.04?
I can't use the Power features in the right click menu on the VM's on those VM's that says "3rd party unsupported". However I don't see the vmtoolsd process either on my Ubuntu 12.04 VM's. How do you install the vmtools on Ubuntu 12.04?

comment How do I make sure VMware Tools is installed and running?
This is very interesing. Can you show the output from rpm -qa|grep -i vmware and dpkg --get-selections|grep -i vmware if you have such?

@GeraldCombs Apparently VMware sees these a 3rd party tools, and doesn't expose the same functionality as their own. Although I don't understand why, as the open-vm-tools is also from VMware.

comment When should an EFI partition be used?
What I find strange is that on Solaris it creates an EFI partition when you make a ZFS pool. Why would it do that?

comment What does tcpdump “BOOTP/DHCP, Request from …” mean?
The host is a desktop computer, so it could be a firewall problem, as you say. There is a DHCP server on the network, and dhclient -r gives me a new IP, so it should be responding.

comment What does tcpdump “BOOTP/DHCP, Request from …” mean?
Why is it sending out so many? I don't see other DHCP clients do that? Is it a miss configured dhcp client?

comment Can XFS or GlusterFS replace my ZFS needs?
I have now updated the OP. Is it correct understood that you use ZFSonLinux for production? If, how does it handle hot swap of failed disks? Have you had any problems due to ZFSonLinux? When reading about Openindiana, I can't see there is much of a community and package updates. Is that correct?

ZFS is perfect, but NFSv4 on FreeBSD crashes the host on heavy reads.
