This is good, but why not just bind the daemon to localhost:8080 instead of 0.0.0.0:8080 ? I want to do that, but I need the iptables for that.

BTW This is all only really relevant for Rails after 2.2, before that an app instance was really single threaded and could only take one request at at time.
