comment MSSQL Two Database Servers 1 Database
Just a quick comment on Facebook and large corporations.... these businesses never write to the database synchronously. Facebook has a layer of memcache between the application and the MySQL databases it uses - the memcache is updated/read and the database is updated/re-read asynchronously at a later time. Google "database sharding" to find out more.

comment SQL Server 2005 Replication Subscription Expiring Warning
You can set a threshold to allow the event to fire ahead of time. "When you enable a warning by using Replication Monitor or sp_replmonitorchangepublicationthreshold, you specify a threshold that determines when a warning is triggered. When that threshold is met or exceeded, a warning is displayed in Replication Monitor, and an event is written to the Windows event log. Reaching a threshold can also trigger a SQL Server Agent alert" There's a link to show you how to do that.

comment Some rows giving “String or binary data would be truncated” error when editing in Management Studio
Hmmm - It’s possible to ignore the 'String or binary data would be truncated' message by setting ANSI_WARNINGS to OFF. This will truncate fields where they don’t fit. ANSI_WARNINGS OFF has drawbacks and it is better to correct a problem rather than ignore it. Another thing to check is whether the table update is firing any triggers that insert or update another table.
