comment Mysterious bandwidth limit
Did you ever get anywhere with this, i am seeing the same behavior. What is strange though is that i got the data center to bootup a linux rescue CD to run some tests, i managed to transfer a file from one of my servers to another (London -> Salt Lake City) at 4-5 MB/s. From windows i get similar behavior to you, except i get around 300-380 KB/s per connection.

comment IIS Spikes in anonymous users - crippling my server
1) Well a few weeks ago with the same load, everything was just fine. 2) same as 1, nothing has changed that could affect performance. 3) No sql server, there is a database server called RavenDb, but it won't be adding connections to my IIS server. I'm not sure what other information i can tell you that will help. I think my question really at this stage is how to get a list of IP addresses from my IIS logs to see where the connections are coming from when it spikes...

comment Windows server 2008r2 crashed overnight - dump log
I do understand what your saying, but I don't have that kind of low level knowledge to understand a dump file which is why i asked for help. I do research everything i possibly can but sometimes i need a little push...like today, this question eventually helped me fix my problem.

Thank you, this lead me into the right direction...in the end it was down to my power settings being set to 'Balanced' instead of 'High performance'. In effect this turned the PCI-Express link state power management from 'Moderate power savings' to 'no power savings'. I had thousands of errors in my error log before, now i have none.

so basically, very difficult to find the route cause unless it's reproducible.

comment Very active database with high % disk times
ok thanks, i seen that earlier...however as a novice when it comes to performance monitoring i'm still not quite sure what i should be looking at / cross referencing. I just fired up ProcessMon and got some IO stats for RavenDb.Server.exe which says it's using around 28 MB/s, doesn't sound too high.

Thank you for the answer...yes i know better disks will help of course, I was just wondering if the counters of over 1000 is actually a percentage, are my disks really getting that thrashed?

my data is MP3 files, not sure if this will compress well or not? my data is split up into around 5000 sub-directories on each drive with an average of about 10 files in each folder...can i just let rsync process the whole tree for each drive or should i break this down into smaller chunks?

Ok maybe 14 days I could just about handle, not ideal by any means...ok so now it goes back to my original question...what would be the best method of transferring?

comment Transfer 10TB of files from USA -> UK datacenter
Just realised that i typed 11Mbps, however is what I actually meant was 11MB/s. I suppose this makes quite a big difference, my calculations have it to around 11-14 days roughly...is this correct?

The data center won't allow me to ship out my drives, it's against their policy apparently, I had offered to pay for them too. Didn't realize 11Mbps would take 90-100 days...that is horrible to think about and I thin I need to re-consider my options now.

Hyppy it wont let me add a user like that, it says it can't find it. Tristan...what do you mean by a mirrored user account locally...i do have the same user setup on local machine and networked machine. In my browser i simply get 500 - internal server error though. I only see the access denied error in process monitor. I have tried enabling detailed errors on the VD but still get 500...could this be related?

when i try to add a user from another server, it says it can't find it...when i click location button, it only has the option of the local server.

Yes i beleive i am already using anonymous authentication...where would i check this in IIS7? on the authentication option in IIS on the site, or on my virtual directory?

just tried using pass through authentication for the VD which uses the app pool user (my new user), still no luck. same access denied error in process monitor.
