I have over 30 years experience in all phases of software development and delivery. I have administered a variety of midrange servers, and worked with systems from PCs to Mainframes.

comment iptables: service per physical interface
@pba How do you guarantee that if the NICs are plugged into different network segments you don't create a bridge? Why do I need to dedicate a router port per service? I don't think I would be comfortable attaching a devices using this model to a network I had control of.

comment Disabled SSLv3 to combat Poodle now cannot connect to SQL “Connection forcibly closed by remote host”
@MichaelHampton I fixed the link. The syntax I provided was for Apache as specified. Check the enabled/disabled protocols as per support.microsoft.com/kb/245030.

comment Setting DNS TTL for an external address
@JRE The TTL on your server will start at the authoritative (ISPs?) server's value and count down to zero. Don't expect them to be the same. Once your DNS server's TTL reaches 0 it will recheck with the authoritative server for the current (possibly changed) information.

comment New line character %250A in URL: Apache throws 404 error
@Tamara You may not have the same content or same docroot on both systems. It is strange to have /index/index in the path, although this is legal. Having linefeeds in a filename is also strange. You may also have permission issues. Check the error log.

comment New line character %250A in URL: Apache throws 404 error
@Tamara I believe the encoded newline is %0A. %240A decodes to %0A.

comment How to set UTF-8 charset in exim4?
@Heiachi Check the default locale for your new server, possibly using a cron entry to run the command locale. Also look at the raw content of a message to see what character set was used and how they where encoded. Check the default encoding of your mail read as well.
